              New Dawn

On the shore of Lake Limestone,

the early morning sun

catches a glint off the wings

of a slowly cruising bird.

The calm gray water

reflects a slight orange hue.

I’m still in shadows

where scattered trees

ease into the day.

Two days past full,

high above the opposite shore,

the moon is a bright white

with the standard gray patches

reflecting its peaks and valleys.

The moon passed over us all night,

the course it has taken for ages,

a welcome sight in the clear sky.

It seems on a journey

while we bask in the serenity

of a new dawn.
